EVENT HISTORY
In 1999, our family decided to host a small triathlon at our property on Lake Erie in Colchester South Township, Ontario. We called it the "Loaring Triathlon", and invited close family members and friends to participate ‘for the love of the sport’.
Since then, our event has become a very public affair, and has developed, year-after-year, into something very special. With the help of many generous sponsors, and a tireless crew of volunteers, we have together hosted a unique, grass-roots, first-class event, attracting many new-comers to the sport, while still meeting the needs of a very wide-range of participants.
The initial proceeds of the Loaring Triathlon went to the Canadian Cancer Society. Years later, however, our family had a very personal reason for changing the focus. Our mother, Elena Loaring, lost her courageous battle with breast cancer in 2004 at the age of 58. That year, our family worked closely with the University of Windsor, forming the ‘Elena Loaring Memorial Fund for Breast Cancer Research’.
We were overwhelmed with the support received from our community, and in 2010 we proudly surpassed our goal of over $130,000! Our mother’s fund will self-generate at the University of Windsor for many years to come, with monies used to support scholarships for graduate students conducting breast cancer-related research.
Our new charity for 2012 is the Windsor Regional Hospital Foundation. We are excited to give back to an organization that has shown world-class leadership and teamwork, and is filled with medical professionals that keep our community healthy, safe, and strong.
Also new this year are exciting additions to our Loaring Triathlon “Events Schedule”. For the first time ever, we will have a “Relay Division” for the Sprint Triathlon, and are also introducing the “Sun Life 5km Run/Walk” & “Kids Fun Run”.
Join us, with family and friends, for the 10th Loaring Triathlon, on July 7th, 2012. An event you do not want to miss!
